SYNOPSIS

A high school vice principal, in the Chicago suburbs, chairs a contentious debate over a trans girl’s right to swim, where parents, students, and a teacher arrive armed with certainty—but leave challenged by something deeper: The MACHINE explores a divisive social issue through a high school committee debating a trans athlete’s right to compete. By balancing diverse perspectives, the film doesn’t offer easy answers; rather, it makes a quiet, urgent plea for listening, understanding, and building bridges, or machines.
