Arequipa, Peru. Following the narrative thread of a letter, "Carta a un niño trabajador" takes us on a journey through the memories of the film's protagonist, a child labourer. With tenderness and poetry, this story takes us to the heart of Avelino. A market where every day at dawn, this child, then around ten years old, helped shoppers carry their groceries in exchange for a few coins. Combining intimacy and distance, the adult he has become today shares a unique and embodied perspective on this experience. He puts into words with nuance his feelings, his lessons learned, his wounds and his premature experience of the end of innocence. This dialogue with himself reveals a journey that surely resonates with many others. This dual perspective sensitively highlights some of the challenges of childhood when work is part of everyday life and invites us, without judgement, to question the place and impact of work in a child's development.
