A man makes a vow. He promises not to cling to the past, nor be anxious about the future. He vows to focus solely on the present moment, to live vividly in the now. And yet, in contrast to his resolution, he finds himself immersed in the beauty of past memories. He smiles when he talks about the past, but feels drowsy when he tries to focus on the present. In the bookstore, traces of people who came and went linger like ghosts — fragments of memory, of time. Is this man, too, one of the bookstore’s ghosts?
