"Return" is a poignant exploration of identity, belonging, and migration, directed by artist Simina German. In this deeply personal film, German documents her mother Christina's return to Romania after more than 30 years of living in Germany. Through this intimate lens, German captures the emotional and physical complexities of both leaving and returning, inviting the audience to reflect on what "home" truly means. What compels Christina to return after decades abroad? How will she navigate the challenges of reconnecting with a homeland that has inevitably changed? And how does the passage of time affect how a once-familiar place feels after years of absence? More than just a narrative of migration, "Return" offers a thoughtful meditation on displacement, heritage, and the fluid nature of identity, while subtly reflecting on the lasting influence of Romania's communist past.
