Matthew Cooper

BIOGRAPHIE

Matt began by directing music promos, and was lucky enough to work with artists such as Gaz Coombes (Supergrass), Stornoway (4AD), Richard Walters (Cooking Vinyl) and Flyte (Island Records). He directs the majority of the work at Villager Films, including TVCs and online commercials for brands such as Disney, Greenpeace and Shakespeare's Globe. His passion for the environment took him to Indonesia in 2018 to film a short documentary about the declining coral reefs around the world, and their importance to the planet’s ecosystem. Whilst Matt mainly works as a director, he also produced the BIFA nominated short film THE ENTERTAINER (2017), starring Toby Jones and directed by Jonathan Schey (BBC's LADHOOD). He is currently producing UPROAR (2020), a documentary about an all female Rumba band from Cuba and TWEEKO (2020), a music documentary about the controversial ‘drill’ music scene in South London. Matt is part of the BFI Network x BAFTA Crew 2019/20, and is incredibly excited to be submitting his first short fiction film MAGPIE (2020) into festivals for consideration.
