Matteo Macaluso was born in Parma, Italy, in 1979. His passion for cinema and visual arts started to develop early in his youth. In 2001 he attends and graduates at the "Antoniano Drama School" and for the first time he engages with the craft of film direction. He directs his first short movie in 2004. His works range beetwen different genres. In 2009 he directs Vercinge, a short film on the Partisan Resistance that wins the Cinema section at the Martelive Prize. Between 2009 and 2012 he produces and directs Tears and Al Crepuscolo. Both works are selected for International Festivals. Along with is work as a director he works as a director of photography. The music video 'Mostarda' he photographed and directed by the astist Glomarì won the 'Artefici del nostri tempo' section at the Venice Biennale. From 2016 he follows with the schools some cinema project that are intended to teach children the language of cinema and are aimed at creating narrative works. ‘Shelter’, work created with the Balletti School of Quattro Castella in the 2018, wins the schools section at the Giffoni Film Festival and is selected in numerous Festivals including the Fedic Scuola. While Global W, work created in 2019, is welcomed at various national and international events, including the Trieste Science + Fiction Festival and the Giffoni School Experience Festival. Global W won the 1st prize at Meet International Film Festival. The next project ‘The Hiding Place’ shortfilm, won the section in Giffoni School Experience. In 2020 he direct 'A Witch is Børn', the movie is selected to Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya, Morbido Film Festival (Mexico), Grimmfest (UK), Festival Rojo Sangre (Buenos Aires). In 2021 he write and direct the shortfilm ‘There were two kid. Two Partisans.’ Based on a real event and life of the Partisans Bruno Bocconi and Mirko Andreoli. On 2022 he direct 'L'Armadio (The Closet)', the short is selected to 55th Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya, and nominee for a Méliès D'Argent to 10th Hard:Line Film Festival in Germany. In Italy it's one of 26 finalists of Cortinametraggio.
