Simonee Chichester is an award-winning filmmaker of fiction and documentary films. Her work has enjoyed critical acclaim, been televised across the globe and screened internationally, notably at Sao Paulo’s Mostra Film Festival, Rome’s Tertio Millennio Film Festival and Taiwan’s Ethnographic Film Festival. Credits include the Hot Docs Audience Top Ten feature CHICHESTER'S CHOICE, Short of the Week CAPTIVUS, which premiered at Toronto’s Inside Out Film Festival, AM I BEAUTIFUL , a 10-part documentary web series produced for World VisionCanada, and the CBC original short film MY GUY, produced for Canadian Reflections . Simonee’s a graduate of the Directors' Lab at Norman Jewison’s prestigious Canadian Film Centre, and previously studied acting at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. She has collaborated with acclaimed actors Allana Harkin (Full Frontal with Samantha Bee), Amy Rutherford (Soulpepper’s A Streetcar Named Desire) and Karen Robinson (Schitt’s Creek) and studied with internationally renowned coach Judith Weston, author of Directing Actors and The Film Director’s Intuition. Simonee’s recent film HIM & HER, is an Arts Council recipient starring acclaimed Canadian actress Gabrielle Rose (The Sweet Hereafter, The Adjuster, Speaking Parts). The film was inspired by timely movements, Me Too movement and Times Up and tracks a conversation between two strangers who seemingly have nothing in common and meet by surprise because of a misunderstanding. Their chance meeting quickly turns a corner when they engage in a disarmingly, honest exchange that strips them of their inhibitions to allow them both to truly be seen. Simonee directs television and has several of her own film and TV projects in development. She produces, directs and writes character-based stories, drawing from her own diverse background and personal experience to capture everyday life unfolding in meaningful ways. She is represented by The Characters Talent Agency in Toronto and Verve Talent and Literary Agency.
