Having studied at the National Circus School of Montreal and at Concordia University in film production, Frédérique Cournoyer Lessard is a multidisciplinary artist who works on the narrative power of the circus gesture, both on stage and in cinema. As film director, she stood out from a very young age by winning the jury prize at Vidéastes recherche.es when she was only 14 years old. Since then, her most recent pieces PAS and RUE DE LA VICTOIRE have been selected and awarded in more than 85 festivals around the world, such as Dance on Camera (NY, USA ), Clermond-Ferrand (France), Cinedans (Netherlands), Shorts Shorts (Japan), Festival Nouveau Cinéma (Canada), Mecal Film Festival (Spain), San Francisco Dance Festival (USA), etc. She is currently in post-production for her upcoming short film COCONUT, as well as in development for her upcoming feature film IT'S GONNA BE FINE. As a circus artist, Frédérique works as a performer specializing in aerial hoops and contortion on the international scene. She participates in various projects in Europe, Canada and Australia within various renowned companies such as Palazzo, La Soirée or Cirque Éloize. In 2021, she begins a creation process for her very first solo show entitled SCUSE, which combines documentary circus, dance and theater.
