Mirjam Baker was born in 1985 and raised in Austria. She studied Media Technologies in Austria at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences from 2005-10 after a year of studying Physics at University of Vienna. During her media course she produced several awardwinning music videos, among the bands the british Zoot Woman, with which she was part of the German touring exhibition The Art of Pop Video. After an exchange program at Lucerne University of Art and Design in Switzerland in 2009-10 learning puppet animation, she co-directed the puppet film The Back Room which was shown in more than 30 festivals worldwide. At Royal College of Art in London from 2011-14 she did an MA in animation and expanded her practise by painting. In 2013 she was first Casinos Austria short-film stipendiary at Vienna Independent Shorts film festival and in 2014 her film Krikelkrakel was awarded the Royal College's Daler-Rowney prize for excellence in drawing. Exhibitions, jury participations and teaching positions followed from 2010 onwards. The latter at St. Poelten University of Applied Sciences for animation, for drawing at Royal College of Art, University of Westminster and Bath Spa University. After her graduation in 2014 she moved to Cologne and has been continuing as an independent animation filmmaker and painter.
