Before graduating with a film degree from New Jersey’s Fairleigh Dickinson University Magna Cum Laude, director Ivar Murd had already had a colorful history leading up to his work in the arts: born in a small Estonian industrial town, then still a part of the USSR, with primary schooling across Europe in Helsinki, Tallinn, and Copenhagen, before moving to New York to pursue a career in filmmaking. Some of Mr. Murd’s current film production highlights include: co-writing and assistant directing Tout les femmes sont brunes (France/Estonia 2012); writing and directing the short film Drought (USA/Estonia 2013), which was his senior thesis work; writing and directing BINGO! (USA 2013), a short documentary; and writing and directing Ash Mountains (USA/Estonia 2015), a feature-length documentary about the author’s hometown. Mr. Murd has worked as an actor and dancer for Theater NO99, based in Tallinn, Estonia, worked as a production coordinator for THEM Media, Inc., a Manhattan based media production company, and as a writer and director for Catalysis Films, LLC. Most recently, as a result of his work on Ash Mountains, Mr. Murd was signed onto THEM Media as a documentary director for future projects.
