KAREN MARTINEZ is a dual national British-Trinidadian filmmaker based in London, UK. She has worked extensively in the film world both in the UK and the Caribbean. In 2013 she wrote and directed her first narrative fiction, After Mas, that won the Short award at ttff/13 and was screened at a number of international festivals. Her 2015 film, Dreams in Transit, winner of the Caribbean Spirit Award at the Caribbean Tales Film Festival, is an essay-style documentary that explores a contemporary migrant’s reflections on identity and the meaning of 'home'. Karen recently received a grant from the BFI (British Film Institute) to develop her first feature film script, Scattered, a road movie set in Trinidad. Her short film, Trinidad Remains, shot in Trinidad in 2023 and starring Leonie Elliott, won the award for Best Narrative Fiction at the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival '23.
