Sevgi Emel Eker is a Finnish-Turkish film director and writer with a Master of Arts from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Sevgi’s films have traveled to numerous festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, Slamdance, Vienna Shorts, Leuven, Tampere International Short Film Festival and The Norwegian International Film Festival of Haugesund, where Sevgi’s second directorial work, The 99 steps left from the Square (2017) was awarded with the Next Nordic Generation Award. The 99 steps left from the square was also awarded at the Helsinki Short Film Festival and it was the first part of an upcoming trilogy of short films. The second part 49 years from the house on the left (2019) had its European premiere at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival’s LAB competition from where it continued to Tampere International Short Film Festival to win the Golden Shade award. Both, The 99 steps left from the square and 49 years from the house on the left were also curated for the “Displaced” exhibition at Oulu and Lappeenranta art museums. The third part of the trilogy 7 P.M. on a Sunday (2022) had its premiere at Tampere International Short Film Festival. Sevgi is developing two feature films: Room 511, which was selected to Women in Film and Television Finland’s In Focus incubator, and a feature-length version of 7 P.M. on a Sunday. Sevgi is also a Göteborg Film Festival Nordic Film Lab alum and the co-founder of the art-house film collective Oddity.
