Sean Wirz

BIOGRAPHIE

Sean Wirz (*1988) is a director and film producer. His drama YARA (2019), the dance short AKASHA (2017) and the black comedy LIGHTS OUT!!! (2017) ran at numerous short film festivals worldwide, among them Aesthetica SFF York, Filmfest Dresden and Brest European SFF. YARA tells a multi-layered story about refugees in Switzerland through the eyes of a twelve-year-old Kurdish-Swiss boy and was awarded a special prize at the Oriental Film Festival Geneva in 2019. His entry SMOKEFREE – I AM STRONGER (2017) won both the jury and public-voting award at a nationwide advertisement competition. In addition to fiction and advertising, Sean produces works with a social character. These include a film workshop for people with a physical disability, or a short documentary on the everyday life and perspectives of people affected by dementia. Sean also creates the sound design and film music for many of his films. His love of sound began as a musician. Later he assisted at the venerable Sound Design Studios AG, where he held a seat on the board of directors. Sean studied in Australia, Zurich and New York City and was admitted to the Swiss Study Foundation in 2012. Sean lives in Bern, Switzerland and dives into the cool waters of his beloved river Aare all year round.
