[EN] Takheer (DELAY) Short Film Director’s Biography: Ali Sohail Jaura is a Pakistani filmmaker and commercial director currently based in New York City. His films are rooted in social realism and human behavior, often examining ordinary people caught in moments of emotional, moral, or historical pressure. A graduate in Film and Television from Iqra University, Karachi, Ali has built a body of work across narrative cinema and commercial filmmaking. His short films have earned more than 120 international festival selections and over 45 awards worldwide. His acclaimed short film Murder Tongue won 25 awards and screened at multiple Oscar-qualifying festivals, including HollyShorts, Bali International Film Festival, Tehran International Short Film Festival, Interfilm Berlin, and Busan International Short Film Festival, to name a few. His South Korea-set short film A Better Place further reflects his interest in intimate, cross-cultural stories about displacement, loneliness, and human connection. Ali’s work is known for its restrained visual language, performance-driven storytelling, and interest in characters navigating grief, guilt, survival, and dignity. His latest short film, Takheer, continues his exploration of human behavior under crisis, set against the backdrop of the 2015 Karachi heatwave.
