BIOGRAPHIE

Fabio Rodrigo is a director and screenwriter based in Itaquaquecetuba, a city on the outskirts of São Paulo, Brazil. His interest for arts and culture originated from his contact with Hip Hop culture and its active reflection on modern society. While working as a telemarketing operator near a youth center, he took advantage of the library located there, spending his resting hours reading and studying film, cinema history and screenwriting. This was a passion that, once acquired, there was no way of going back. Thanks to "Educar para a vida", a philanthropist organization, he was able to go to college and graduate in Audiovisual Studies. In 2015, alongside Caroline Neves, he directed Lúcida, his debut short film. This practically home-made film won, in the following year, the award for Best Short Film by the critic's jury at the Festival de Cinema de Gramado, Brazil's oldest and one of the most prestigious Film Festivals. It depicts the reality of solo-motherhood on city margins and features Fabio and Caroline's own son, Vinicius. Lúcida was screened at most film festivals in Brazil and also had a long-running screening window, being invited to events up until today. His second short, Kairo (2018), introduced him to a whole new experience, having been produced by a cinema company, Superfilmes, which is run by veteran-producer Zita Carvalhosa. He had access to a bigger sta and more equipment. For Kairo, Fabio won the Best Director Award at Festival de Cinema de Gramado, and the film was also screened at Festival de Brasília, São Paulo International Short Film Festival, Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival, among others. Kairo is a reflection on police brutality and its impact on children. It also accomplished something somewhat rare among short films: being screened at movie theaters on the commercial circuit - opening sessions for the feature film Los Silencios, by Beatriz Seigner. His third short, EnĒre Nós e o Mundo, his first documentary, premiered at Mostra de Cinema de Tiradentes in 2020 and is still making its career throughout the Festival Circuit, having been selected to São Paulo International Short Film Festival, Aesthetica Film Festival, Semana de Cinema do Rio de Janeiro, among others. It was recently nominated for the 2021 edition of "Grande Prêmio do Cinema Brasileiro", the Brazilian Academy Awards and was chosen by the Brazilian Critics Association (Abraccine) as one of the 10 best short films of 2020. EnĒre Nós e o Mundo has also won four awards in national film festivals until this date.
