BIOGRAPHIE

Leah Loftin is a New York-based filmmaker and performer whose work was named “fearless” by The New York Times. Loftin’s films often integrate physical performance with archival texts, art, and ephemera to question the mythologies of history. Her work offers a highly rhythmic and vividly stylized visual language – drawn from a background in international avant-garde theatre. Loftin was recently named an “Emerging Director to Discover” by SHOOT Magazine, as part of their New Directors Showcase. Loftin’s films have premiered at the BAFTA-qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival (UK), Shorts on Tap (London), Anthology Film Archives (NYC), and have won awards at film festivals in Berlin, Toronto, Austin, and Bucharest. Her experimental film work was a recent finalist for the 2022 Aesthetica Art Prize. Loftin is also an actress working in film, television, and theatre. Formally trained with the Moscow Art Theatre (MXAT), she was selected for an extended performance residency in Moscow. On television, Loftin recently guest starred on THE BLACKLIST and NEW AMSTERDAM, and will be seen next in THE GREEN VEIL, starring opposite John Leguizamo. Her film roles began in the Oscar-winning Monster’s Ball, and she has appeared in award-winning independent films that have screened across the globe. With a deep history creating and performing avant-garde and movement-based theatre, Loftin has performed Off-Broadway and throughout the US, Canada, and Russia.
