Kay Niuyue Zhang is originally from Wuhan, China. After receiving her Bachelor's degree in Duke University, she studies Film Productions at USC School of Cinematic Arts. She is a recipient of the merit award of James Bridges and Jack Larson fund, Lisa Lu Fund, and Moustapha and Malek Akkad Endowed Fund. As a director and producer, Kay brings her films to more than 50 international film festivals such as St. Louis International Film Festival, SCAD Savannah Film Festival, DeadCenter Film Festival, Canada Shorts, and Hainan international film festival. The recent documentary short she produced Unfinished Lives (2020) is a gold medalist in the 47th Student Academy Awards. Despite producing "Choose Your Parents" which is her first feature, Kay is producing and directing her thesis film "Mother in the Mist" which was selected to be a semi-finalist in the Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards. Her creativity is inspired by her experience as an international citizen who constantly crosses borders both physically and culturally. She surrounds her creative world with the subtle and sensitive experiences of marginalized and diasporic children and women.
