BIOGRAPHIE

Mei Liu is a Chinese filmmaker based in New York & Shanghai. She received her BFA in Film Production from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Her work focuses on the underbellies of urban landscapes and the people on the margins. She examines themes of loneliness, identity, work, and relaxation through a foreign, female gaze. Her narrative short films have won best film at CUNY Asian American Film Festival, jury award at Long Distance Film Festival, and officially selected for Rhode Island International Film Festival and Feminist Border Arts Film Festival. Liu is in the development stage for her first feature film, which blends documentary and narrative, and tells the story of two Chinese women and their strange connection through surrogacy. She also works part-time for contemporary artist Cai Guo-Qiang as a creative assistant on the development of a feature film.
