Zoë Kiani moved to Rotterdam in 2016 to study Audio Visual Design at the Willem de Kooning Academy. She started working alongside the academy as a freelancer in 2017 under the company name of Kiani Film (now kinokiani). Since then she has participated in many productions; video clips, short films, commercials and feature films. After much orientation, it was soon clear that her passion and talent lies in directing and producing. The stories she wants to tell often have to do with cultural and social topics, human emotions and situations where improbable elements meet. Her own bi-cultural origin (half Dutch half Iranian) has inspired her to these stories of diaspora, letting go and paradoxical conflict in life. Her ambition is to be able to tell stories that are unheard. Stories from real people or inspired by real people. Drawing the essence and inspiration from our history, our humanity, our self-constructed way of life and how it sometimes collides or flourishes.
