BIOGRAPHIE

Matt is a writer / director based in New Zealand. His short film ‘The Dregs’ was featured in NZIFF Best shorts 2017, FIFO Tahiti 2018 and also won best ‘Indie Drama’ in the Los Angeles Film Awards. Matt is currently writing a feature based on ‘The Dregs'. Matt is highly motivated to create works of genuine cultural value and especially about music - his life long obsession. Matt also loves and believes in the power of comedy to transcend societal boundaries and so endeavours to make humorous films with strong cultural themes. Stories about people and places and how lives are shaped by formative experiences. How culture is created from circumstance and the cross pollination of ideas. These themes are extremely important Matt as someone who grew very much on the fringes of mainstream (sport) culture in New Zealand, and who also spent a large part of his young adult life overseas as an immigrant - in New York, and as a ‘gaijin’ in Japan. Matt currently has concepts in various stages of development for a total of 5 films about the local music scene - fun films about the rich musical culture of Aotearoa past and present.
