BIOGRAPHIE

Gabriela Gaia Meirelles is a filmmaker, screenwriter and multimedia artist born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her work seeks the intersection between the syncretism of popular culture, the subversion of gender roles and fantastic realism in search of the construction of decolonized perspectives and narratives. Her most recent short film, AFETO (2019, 15 ’), about architecture and female occupation of urban space, won the Saint Lucia Prize for Best International Experimental Short Film 2019 at the 17th Bogoshorts, Colombia; honorable mention at the Vitória Film Festival and was elected best short film in five other national festivals. Past works have been exhibited at the Aqua Art Fair Miami; International Video Art House Madrid; LISFE - Leiden International Short-Film Experience, Netherlands. She studied Cinema at PUC-Rio and has been working with conception and formatting of audiovisual projects.
