Andrei Ștefan Răuțu had his first hands-on experience with film directing, during an 8 weeks “Filmmaking Certificate” program, at New York Film Academy, in Los Angeles, between 2011 and 2012. In 2013, he released his first short fiction film, “Ela, Panda and Madame”, which offered him the chance to participate at various international film festivals, such as Los Angeles Independent Film Festival, TIFF, Reykjavik IFF, Festival de Film d’Amour de Mons and many others. Between 2013 and 2016 he studied film directing at the National University of Theatre and Film “I.L Caragiale”. Through an Erasmus Scholarship he makes a short documentary, “Back to the Roots”, nominated for the “Gopo Awards” in 2015. In the summer of 2016, in Chengdu, he directed, shot and edited “Chasing Dao”, a short documentary produced by “Looking China” Association. After three weeks spent in China, he came back to Romania and “Samurai Fantasy”, an experimental film that he made in Portugal, won the “best experimental film award” at “Filmul de Piatra”. In 2017 he directed “Perseids”, a fantasy short film that premiered in Brussels at Balkans Beyond Borders Film Fesitval and was screened at Izmir IFF. In the same year he completed “ A common place”, his Bachelor’s degree film, shot in 35 mm, that was not screened anywhere besides the University. In 2018, he participated at “Aristoteles Workshop”, where he directed and edited “See you Soon”, a short documentary that was screened afterwards at Centre Pompidou, in Paris, during the “Cinema Du Reel” Film Festival. In autumn 2019 he completed “Bucharest seen from above”, his first short film financed by the National Centre of Cinema, produced by Saga film. The film was screened at Transilvania International Film Festival, Trieste IFF, Thessaloniki IFF, Film O’Clock and Anonimul IFF.
