Hồng Anh Nguyễn is a German-born Vietnamese writer, director and editor currently based in Frankfurt am Main and Ho Chi Minh City. Focusing on the crossovers of moving images and performing arts, she is particularly interested in amplifying underrepresented female voices and exploring cultural and generational tensions and the intersectionality of identities – themes embedded in her upbringing as a queer Vietnamese in Germany. Over the years, Hồng Anh has captured numerous drag performances by Vietnamese drag artists such as JACK! and The House of Illusion. Her work includes GAP | GẶP, a queer digital dance duet commissioned by the British Council Vietnam, and [khát], her first poetry publication, which was funded by the Goethe Institute. Most recently, she has directed documentaries for EST Media, highlighting the voices of modern Vietnamese women. Hồng Anh is a fellow of the Kyoto Filmmakers Lab 2022 and recently received the STEP Writer’s Stipend of the Hessen Film & Media in Germany.
