James' writing has been described as humorous, touching and dramatic, leaving you thinking long after. James' Son Of Byblos (finalist in the 2020 Silver Gull Play Award) (BNW/Belvoir St Theatre 25A) was staged in May 2022 to sold-out audiences. Queen Fatima was shortlisted for the 2022 Nick Enright Prize for Playwriting at the NSW Premier's Literary Awards (National Theatre of Parramatta/2021 Sydney Festival). The stage production enjoyed a sold-out season). In 2021 Lady Tabouli was shortlisted for the 2021 Nick Enright Prize for Playwriting at the NSW Premier's Literary Awards. It was also produced and staged in 2020 (National Theatre of Parramatta/ 2020 Sydney Festival), enjoying a sold-out season. In 2019-21 James was selected to be part of the Sydney Theatre Company Emerging Writers' Program. James was named one of AMP's 2021 Tomorrow Maker's in Excellence to Screen/Stage Writing and awarded a grant to write a new script, Karim's Cello (Rodney Seaborn shortlist). James' first stage production, Omar and Dawn (King Cross Theatre 2019/Green Door/Apocalypse), enjoyed a sold-out season. James has been commissioned by Belvoir St Theatre, Co-Curious, and The National Theatre of Parramatta to write four new stage plays in the next two years.
