Robyn Rainsford is a first-time film director from South Africa. She is based in London where she gained her Masters in Acting for Screen from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Robyn is inspired by stories driven by the individual and exploring our human complexities as individuals and society. She is also a published playwright and actor. Mental health is an issue extremely close to my heart, and a pandemic through our communities. Affecting the individual as self and patient, unhinging families and communities and burdening the extended social framework, my interest is in capturing the multitude of affected parts within a moment. Inspired by the play Section 2, I worked with the writer, Peter Imms, to adapt the 70-minute theatre piece into a short film. I was very interested in using controlled colour and a 4:3 aspect ratio to lean away from realism towards a muted and fragmented space, visually capturing the individuals' internal experience against the claustrophobic external landscape.
