BIOGRAPHIE

I am a self taught Independent Filmmaker & Screenwriter from Uttarakhand, India. After completing my High School I went to Mumbai and assisted art-directors and different production houses in Films and Advertisements, mostly as a behind-the-scenes crew member. Later I worked as a freelance director/cinematographer & editor for different Studios, mostly developing food shows and contemporary fashion stories including “Un-fake it with Rocky & Mayur” & “Lakme School of Style”. It was in 2014 when I actually decided to make independent films after attending the Mumbai Film Festival popularly known as MAMI. My short documentary “A Wise Crab” was an official selection in JIO MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2015. The Jury, consisting of prestigious members like Neeraj Ghaywan, Juhi Chaturvedi, Radhika Apte, Deebakar Banerjee and Suraj Sharma, awarded the film with the Special Jury Award. My second documentary “Confident in Being Confused” won the Best Documentary Award in the Indian Cine Film Festival (2016) & Special Jury Award in the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival (2016), Delhi. I later became the founder of my own film studio & organisation called “Silvercord Films” - mostly focussing on regional cinema of Uttarakhand and locally produced documentaries, experimental films, music videos, film workshops & art community gatherings, majorly known for the 2018 released documentary “I Stammer When I Talk”, on a local rapper’s journey battling all odds and his own verbal handicap to pursue his dream to tell stories through rhythm and poetry. My experimental short “Kewal Tumhara” (2019) was based on my grandfather’s love letter to my grandmother, which I discovered after my grandfather’s demise. The film was an official selection in the New York Indian Film Festival and is a part of Sundance Collab Ignite Labs 2020. I recently completed working on a mid-length Garhwali language fiction film which is ready for its film festival journey. My upcoming work mainly deals with the subjects of migration, tribal communities, livelihood, religious superstitions & environmental conditions in the higher Himalayas.
