María Salafranca is a Mexican director born in 1997. She graduated in Documentary Direction, both in specialization and master's degree, from the International School of Cinema and Television of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, in 2024. She has directed the short films Canciones para morir en La Habana (2024), Negra Sombra (2024), winner of the Gold Hugo Award for Best Documentary Short Film at the Chicago International Film Festival; Servicio Necrológico para usted (2024), which premiered at Visions du Réel and was selected for the Drama International Short Film Festival and KasselerDokfest;Compañía (2023), selected for CINELATINO - Rencontres de Toulouse, winner of the Honorable Mentionat the Global Film Festival of Santo Domingo, and also awarded Best Documentary Short Film at the Concordia Film Festival. Her first short film, Cimientos (2021), premiered at the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema of Havana and the International Film Festival of Fribourg.
