[EN] May Abdalla is a documentary filmmaker who has worked internationally making films for the BBC, Channel 4 and Al Jazeera. As half of ANAGRAM she is writing and producing immersive documentaries that bring physical experience into screen narratives. Door Into the Dark, a blindfolded sensory journey for one through the stories of people who have been profoundly lost, premiered at Sheffield Doc/Fest in 2014 and won the Tribeca Film Festival Storyscapes Award in 2015. She co-directed IMPULSE: Playing with Reality, an acclaimed immersive experience that received numerous awards and recognitions in 2024, including: Producers Guild of America - 2024 Innovation Award Finalist Villa Albertine - French Immersion Exhibition Grant 81st Venice International Film Festival - Achievement Prize Venice Immersive FilmGate Interactive Festival IDFA - DocLab Competition BFI London Film Festival 2024 - Expanded program SXSW 2024 - XR Experience Spotlight (preview) Previously to setting up ANAGRAM she worked on developing Alternate Reality Games at BBC Current Affairs and consulted for BBC World Service on a series of interactive projects. In 2011, she produced the BBC3 Our War multiplatform site, which involved sourcing 10 years of found footage from across Afghanistan to chart the personal stories of the war. The series was awarded a BAFTA. In 2010, she ran Give Your Vote, a radical intervention allowing UK citizens to give their votes to people affected by British policies worldwide, which received global media coverage.
