A 21 year old writer and director, Jacob originally started his career in the film industry as an actor, before realising that his true ambitions lied in directing. With an enduring passion for cinema and visual art, Jacob continues to work at Hobart’s iconic State Cinema, seizing every opportunity to watch films—both classic and contemporary—and draw inspiration to refine his own craft. His work centres on relationships and the emotional weight of human connection. These intimate explorations often blur genre boundaries, venturing into the surreal and the confronting. Son is Jacob’s latest work, an evocative exploration of the bond between a father and son on what may be their final day together. Its visual style and tone draw inspiration from filmmakers such as Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Richard Linklater (Before Sunrise), and Wim Wenders (Perfect Days). Currently, Jacob is developing his debut feature film, 'Clean' — a 21st-century fable examining the fragility of modern domesticity. The story follows the unraveling of a one-sided relationship, weaving elements of surrealism with psychological terror.
