BIOGRAPHIE

[EN] Tilly Robba (Australia) and Steph Jowett (Filipino-New Zealander) are a Sydney-based directing and writing duo who are queer partners in life. With a strong visual arts background, they draw inspiration from their upbringing by artist parents. Before transitioning to film, they collectively worked in theater, costume design, graphic design, and architecture. Their short documentary Lesbians on the Loose, part of a three-part ABC Original series, was nominated at the 2024 International Emmys and the Australian Directors’ Guild Awards, and won the Audience Award at the Mardi Gras Film Festival. It has screened at several festivals including Seattle International Film Festival. Their other works include Dykes on Bikes: An Origin Story, a documentary supported by Canon, and Winona, an experimental music short about a Dolly Parton impersonator competition that premiered at Palm Springs International ShortFest. Their animated short Single, supported by Screen Australia, premiered at OutFest and toured the UK as part of the Iris Prize’s Iris on the Move program. Under the pseudonym name Studio Antics, Tilly and Steph also direct music videos. Their music video Lalaki screened at SXSW Sydney and won Best Music Video at the FBi SMAC Awards. Buff is their debut live-action narrative short film.
