[EN] Yawen Tan is a Chinese film director, visual artist, composer, and writer based in Paris. Her creative practice is deeply informed by a decade of research in philosophy and anthropology, as well as her personal journey through bipolar disorder and gendered violence. After graduation from Stanford University, she embarks on her PhD studies in anthropology at the University of California, Davis. Her dissertation on Chinese feminist creativity was abruptly interrupted a psychiatric hospitalization in the U.S.—a turning point that deeply shaped her first feature film, Between Peaks, currently in late development. Alongside filmmaking, Yawen works across digital painting, video installation, and contemporary classical music. In 2020, she was featured by Stanford News as an outstanding graduate. In 2023, she received the Asia-Pacific Leaders Initiative Outstanding Delegate Award for her contributions to the arts and humanities.
