[EN] Once a cowboy in the Australian Outback before earning a film directing degree at UCLA, Taiwanese-American filmmaker Wade Chao draws from a complex background that informs his work across themes of displacement and the invisible lives shaped by social, historical, and systemic forces, often marked by power and estrangement. He often frames environments—cities, institutions, and artificial structures—as sentient forces in conflict with the diasporic self.
