[EN] Ceren Oykut (1978, İstanbul) graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University’s Painting Department in 2002. Her work explores the origins of drawing, connecting prehistorical gestures with contemporary techniques and media. She often collaborates with artists from other disciplines, extending drawing into performance, sound, and moving image. Her practice expands from small scraps of paper to large-scale rolls and walls, disrupting classical composition and inviting the viewer into a shifting, panoramic field. Through live drawing performances, she makes visible a process of active imagination, stretching drawing across space and time. Oykut follows a cyclical approach—transforming her drawings into raw material for new narratives and installations. She is one of the founding members of Berlin-Zürich based audio-visual performance collective Black On Black. Her work has been featured in international exhibitions including the 1st Architectural Biennale of Tbilisi (2018), Istanbul: Passion, Joy, Fury (MAXXI, Rome, 2015), the Jerusalem Show (2014), and the 10th International Lyon Biennial (2009), and in publications such as Ord&Bild/Istanbul The City of Palimpsest, Nr:3-4, Sweden (2023), Vitamin D3: Today’s Best in Contemporary Drawing (Phaidon, 2021), Unleashed: Contemporary Art from Turkey, Thames&Hudson (2011)
