BIOGRAPHIE

Ross McClean (1991) is a filmmaker from Belfast. He studied creative documentary in Canada, Hungary, Portugal & Belgium and graduated from the European documentary directing masters program DocNomads. On returning home, Ross has lectured at Queen's University whilst creating work about his homeland. His first short film, Hydebank (2019), premiered at DokLeipzig, IDFA, Hot Docs, Clermont and won Best Short Documentary at Galway, London Short, Spektrum, Docs Ireland and Leeds. His following short, Echo (2023), premiered at IDFA, True/False, Sheffield DocFest & Camerimage. Ross' most recent film, No Mean City (2025), premiered in Visions du Réel short competition and won a Golden Frog for Best Short Doc at Camerimage, Best Director at Cork IFF and Best British/Irish Short Film at Leeds and Docsireland. He is currently finishing his first feature length documentary supported by BFI DocSociety & Arte. 4. The film had been shown at Visions Du Reel and Festival Tout Les Courts. Hopefully they can provide french subtitles. However, the film length has changed by a few seconds therefore the subtitles will need to be repositioned. 6. I will be arriving on the 31st into Lyon and leaving on the 7th. I was wondering if the cinematographer of the film could join? We can share rooms. 9.
