SYNOPSIS

[EN] After spending roughly half his life outside South Africa, the death of several elderly family members prompted Rudi van der Merwe to reflect on how they had shaped him, as well as what their lives represented to others. In Ninge, he pays tribute to his grandmother, who lived through most of the tumultuous 20th century and embodied both the aspirations and excesses of Afrikaner nationalism. The film documents his personal journey to confront his tribal affiliations and to imbue his cultural heritage with poetry and renewal.
