SYNOPSIS

[EN] Poland 2023. Ewa is determined to pursue a career as an artist. She finally gets the opportunity to study at the prestigious Art Academy in Szczecin, just as her son Jakub is about to start school. However, her husband Tomasz and her in-laws keep telling her that her art is nothing more than a hobby. In a country where abortions are forbidden by law, she finds out about her unintended pregnancy. In order to meet the expectations of her family and the social pressure, she keeps her condition a secret for the time being. As she increasingly realizes that she has no chance of a legal abortion in Poland and how little her own voice counts in this matter. She secretly travels to Germany, but even here she cannot be helped immediately for legal reasons. The conflict with Tomasz escalates when he finally finds out about her abortion plans and feels betrayed by her acting alone. In desperation, Ewa makes a terrible decision. Subsequently, when she is admitted to the hospital with severe internal injuries, she is denied an abortion even in this condition because the fetus may potentially recover. Meanwhile, Ewa dies from sepsis. This story is inspired by true events.
