SYNOPSIS

[EN] Into the Ashes is a documentary that follows the work of Alex Gomes, leader of the São Jorge Volunteer Brigade, in combating criminal wildfires in Chapada dos Veadeiros, in Brazil's central-west region. Fighting fires symbolizes the environmental, social, and political crisis faced globally. In Brazil, a powerful agribusiness lobby, backed by the rural caucus, seeks to expand its influence across the country. Criminal wildfires are one of their methods, used to degrade the soil in protected areas to justify deforestation and convert these lands into soybean or sugarcane monocultures.
