SYNOPSIS

[EN] Still Here, Still There explores the emotional journey of my aunt Zhu Fang, a 50+ Chinese woman who has moved to the US alone, driven by the hope of fulfilling her version of the “American Dream.” It's a dream that, in many ways, was delayed by 30 years. She struggles to maintain bonds with her family back home, her relentless pursuit of a dream built for others, not herself, reveals contradictions between freedom, duty, and identity. Through the interaction and connection with her, I reflect on my own path in documentary filmmaking. This is not just Zhu Fang’s story, it’s a meditation on generational expectations, cultural displacement, and the blurred line between sacrifice and obsession.
