SYNOPSIS

[EN] This work begins with portraits of figures whose race, gender, and age continuously transform into one another. The screen gradually penetrates into the natural world, from which human forms emerge again, completing a cycle. This process of metamorphosis dissolves the boundaries between human and nature, visualizing the fundamental interconnectedness of our existence. The title 'HNH' stands for Human Nature Human, embodying a structure where nature exists as a mediator between humans. Simultaneously, it signifies that each individual human inherently contains nature within. In everyday life, we rely on superficial signifiers such as skin color, gender, and age when perceiving others. In this work, I sought to strip away this outer layer by superimposing figures with natural textures. Like the muscular tissue in anatomical diagrams, what is revealed beneath the epidermis is the essential structure we all share. Nature is both the common denominator of human existence and the fundamental matter that constitutes us. This perspective resonates with the Buddhist concept of anatta (non-self). The independence of individual existence is an illusion; we exist only within an endless web of relationships. I sought to find possibilities beyond the structural problems of modern society, which defines and excludes others through difference, in the restoration of this interconnectedness. The work employs generative AI as its primary medium. Here, AI functions beyond a mere tool, serving as a non-human agent that provides a third perspective, neither human nor natural. This technological mediation, which reconstructs the human-nature relationship by departing from an anthropocentric view, poses another question about ontology in the post-human era.
