[EN] On Huayu, a windswept islet at the westernmost edge of Taiwan’s Penghu archipelago, fewer than a hundred residents persist at the margins of land and sea. In a community shaped by the rhythms of tide and time, tradition endures: men set out to sea, while women remain ashore—gathering, tending, enduring. “Tides of Resilience” quietly follows two women—Chunzhi, who for decades has traversed the shifting tidal flats, and Amei, the steadfast matriarch of the island’s only grocery store. In a world where male labor is foregrounded and women's work often slips into the periphery, their stories unfold in gestures of repetition and care, revealing an unspoken strength embedded in the routines of island life. Filmed with an unflinching, observational gaze over several years, the documentary captures the interplay of permanence and impermanence—of tradition, gender, and survival. In doing so, it offers a deeply human portrait of resilience, etched into the quiet contours of everyday labor on a vanishing shore.
